White fir, or abies concolor, is a coniferous tree local to Western United States. “Abies” is derived from latin, meaning “rising one”, giving distinct indication to its usage. Fir has been a symbol for deities associated with transformation, strength and the primal natures of man from cultures across the globe. White fir is a modern symbol for winter solstice, as its european cousins were a symbol for yule and the solstice of old. Being a prime host for both mistletoe and amanita mushrooms, it tends to be very supportive in working with these spirits in particular. Many native americans would use the burning Fir in order to purify spaces as well as ward off ghosts. Other tribes would use its needles to ward off disease as well as using the pitch in mourning rituals. The Hopi tribe had a specific clan dedicated to the fir tree called Hekpa. In terms of physical benefits, it's recommended especially for allergies. Fir can support the decrease of allergic symptoms. As a bronchial support, this plant will help with expectorant properties to get rid of mucus in the lungs. It may inhibit bacterial and viral growth, especially in the lungs. It has also been used to support vitamin C intake. Terpene profiles include α-pinene, β-pinene, limonene, Delta3-carene, camphene, β-phellandrene and myrcene, and possess a myriad of healing properties.
